Mom & Country Music

Here's another story that I thought you might enjoy about my 82 year old mother and country music.

I not only took my mother to nashville to the Grand Ole Opry each year but also took her atleast once a year to Cherokee N.C. To a theater she enjoyed called the "Smoky Mountain Jamboree".

This theater was on the Indian reservation and we had enjoyed the music of the local performers for many years. In the beginning they performed for contributions in a bucket and finallly built there own theater.

Being a regular at least once and sometimes three times a year we were on first name basis with the family that ran the theater. Father peformed and family members sold tickets and ran the concession and sold the tapes and CDs.

One July nite near my mother's 82nd birthday I asked if they would reconize her during the performance. Being the nice professionals they were they announced that they wanted to wish a very special birthday wish to a good fan of theirs. The cast gathered together and begin to sing happy birthday. When they announced the name of "Mary Coker from Canton, Ga. My mother looked at me and said "Donald, there's another Mary Coker from Canton here". When the main performer walked over to her and held her hand and asked her to stand a huge smile came over her face as the applause started and she hugged my neck and whispered, "Thanks son I love you". I then knew it was all worth it!

God bless our mamas and the wondeful stories we have about them.
