"WILD WEEKEND"

I think I blocked the song out of my mind. On that fine evening of April 26, 1968, we stood in line waiting to purchase tickets to the Opry at the Ryman. Across the street was a record shop, playing Bill Anderson's record over, and over, and over and many, many times over. I do believe in that hour and a half it played at least 30 to 40 times. When I walked in the door to the Opry my exact statement was, "I NEVER want to hear that song again. That night we saw one terriffic show, Jim Ed Brown, Wilma Lee Cooper, Jim & Jessie, Bob Luman, Ernest Ashworth, George Morgan, Jean Shepard, Archie Campbell, Cousin Jody, Charlie Louvin, Del Wood, Grandpa Jones, Stu Phillips.

As we call them now, some of the Legends of Country Music. We were heading from Ohio to the Opry and then on to Florida. Of course, we listened to the 2nd show of the opry on the radio as we drove south. Low and behold about 2 hours later, what song was being played, the same one that I had heard 40 times that evening. I turned down the volume, so I could not hear it the 41st time. Each time thru out the trip, I turned it off. I did this for probably 6 months after that trip. I have been told it may have been "Wild Weekend". The vocals were great, the uptempo song was great. But I believe, at that time, the song was played one too many times.
